Introducing Robotic-assisted Interventions to Northern Brazil

Corindus, a Siemens Healthineers Company, introduced the CorPath GRX Robotic System to Northern Brazil during a two-day workshop.

September 20-22, Mentice supported Corindus, a Siemens Healthineers company, as they introduced the CorPath GRX Robotic System to Northern Brazil and Hospital do Coração do Pará. The event was organized as a two-day workshop and took place at the Siemens Healthineers ARTIS icono demo site together with Boston Scientific.

The focus was to present new opportunities for clinical teams to drive operational efficiency and improve performance within cardiovascular and neurovascular interventions. It is important to mention that robotic-assisted neurovascular procedures are not yet approved to be performed on real patients.*

Mentice VIST® Virtual Patient allowed participants to perform life-like scenarios and test the precision of the CorPath GRX System using various interventional devices, including guide catheters, microcatheters, guidewires, stents, and coils, while experiencing complex anatomies and scenarios in a radiation- and patient-free environment. The Siemens Healthineers ARTIS icono and Mentice VIST® Virtual Patient integration converts the angio suite to an immersive skill acquisition platform where interventional specialists can develop, retain and enhance their procedural skills as they transition into robotic-assisted endovascular interventions.

"It is amazing to be able to provide such a platform for ethical acquirement of skills. Without the virtual patient/simulator, physicians and staff would not be able to have a safe environment (for themselves or their patients) to improve their skills, communication and understanding of the robotic technology. We are developing a strong partnership with Siemens Healthineers with the objective of not only demonstrating the technology but maintaining abilities and communication skills within the practicing team after the technology is implemented," says Renan Cancissu, Sales Director LATAM, Mentice.

The event was also guested by the Vice President of the Brazilian Society of Neuroradiology (SBNR), Prof. Carlos Clayton de Freitas, INR, and the local presence of the Executive Director of SBNR, Prof. Eric Paschoal, INR, and CEO of the NeuroGenesis group. After the event, Prof. Clayton was invited to a local TV show called Hora de saúde (Health's time) to discuss the workshop.

"I was invited by Dr. Paschoal and the hospital celebrating its anniversary. HCor has an amazing angio suite (Siemens Healthineers). In the angio suite, there is a simulator, a device that simulates the patient so that we can perform endovascular procedures for cardio and neuro in a safe and patient-free environment," says Prof. Clayton and continues mentioning the Brazilian Dr. Vitor Pereira's involvement in developing robotic-assisted technology for neurovascular applications.

"It is fantastic; there is superior precision when using the robot, so we can do very precise movements that hand movements or any kind of tremor would limit. We can use all devices very smoothly, and you leave the operation room, avoiding radiation and the lead apron. In the future, we envision the ability to perform remote procedures, even from different cities, to extend treatment regions, build the necessary networks, and provide care for centers that lack the expertise".

* CorPath GRX for use in neurovascular interventions is only available in select markets and is not available for sale in the USA and Brazil. Its future availability cannot be guaranteed.
